Placeholder and QR Code Generators

These three generators produce stand-in and print assets: solid placeholder images sized to an ad slot or card, filler text in an exact number of words, sentences or paragraphs, and QR codes for flyers, slides, packaging and signs. Developers building layouts, designers wiring mockups and anyone preparing printed material use them.

Which tool do I need?

  • Fill an ad slot or card with a dummy image of the right size

Pick a preset such as 300x250 or 728x90 or type exact dimensions, then download a PNG or copy a data URL.

    Placeholder Generator

  • Get a fixed amount of filler text for a layout

Ask for an exact number of words, sentences or paragraphs and you get exactly that, freshly shuffled each click.

    Lorem Ipsum Generator

  • Make a QR code for a poster that opens a URL

Paste the URL, raise the error correction level for print, keep a dark foreground on a light background and test the printed proof with two phones.

    QR Code Generator

  • Build a quick wireframe with stand-in images and text

Generate each image slot at its real size and matching amounts of copy so the layout breaks where it would with real content.

About Generator Tools

The placeholder and lorem ipsum generators belong together. While a page is being built, they let you test how a layout behaves with the right image dimensions and realistic text lengths before the real content exists, and the placeholder generator can hand you a data URL to paste directly into an img src. The QR code generator is the odd one out: it makes a final asset rather than a temporary one. To read a QR code back, use the QR Code Reader in Image Tools, and to check the colors you chose for a placeholder or QR code against WCAG, use the Contrast Checker in Design Tools.

All three run locally in your browser. Placeholder images are limited to 1 to 2000 pixels on each side and lorem ipsum to 1 to 1000 units per click. QR codes are static: the content is stored in the pattern itself, with no redirect service, tracking or expiry, which also means a printed code cannot be changed later. The share link on the QR generator includes the text you entered, so do not share it when the content is private.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to design with lorem ipsum or real copy?

Real copy wins whenever you have it, because headings and buttons in real languages are rarely the length lorem ipsum suggests. Use placeholder text to test structure early, then replace it before reviews and search your templates for "lorem" before release.

What are the standard ad banner sizes for placeholders?

The common display ad sizes are 300x250 (medium rectangle), 728x90 (leaderboard), 160x600 (wide skyscraper) and 320x50 (mobile banner). The placeholder generator has presets for each.

Do static QR codes ever stop working?

No. A static QR code holds its content in the pattern, so it works as long as that content does. If the code points to a URL, it breaks only when that URL stops resolving.

How can I test a QR code without printing it?

Download it and open it in the QR Code Reader under Image Tools, or scan the screen with a phone. Still scan the final printed proof, because size, paper and lighting change how readable it is.
