AI Visibility Checker

Paste a page's HTML source to check what AI search crawlers can read: raw text, headings, metadata, JSON-LD, robots.txt rules for AI bots and llms.txt.

The interactive tool loads here when JavaScript runs.

About this tool

What is the AI Visibility Checker?

Paste a page's HTML source, and optionally its robots.txt and llms.txt, and this checker runs deterministic tests on what an AI crawler would actually receive: how much text is in the raw HTML before JavaScript runs, the title and meta description, a single H1 and heading order, the canonical URL, meta robots directives, JSON-LD and its types, Open Graph tags, author and date signals, question headings with direct answers, lists and tables, internal links, robots.txt rules for AI search bots and the llms.txt format.

Each check passes, warns or fails with a specific fix, and the results roll up into a score with a breakdown by category. A sample page with deliberate gaps loads first so you can see how it works. Browsers cannot fetch other sites from a web page, so nothing is downloaded: you paste the source and the checks run locally.

  • Content in raw HTML and JavaScript app shell detection
  • Title, description, H1, heading order, canonical and meta robots checks
  • JSON-LD parsing with types listed, plus Open Graph and author and date checks
  • Question headings with answers, lists, tables and internal links
  • robots.txt tested against documented AI search and user agents
  • llms.txt validation and a scored category breakdown

How to use the AI Visibility Checker

  1. Open your page in a browser and use View source (Ctrl+U, or Cmd+Option+U on a Mac). Copy everything.
  2. Paste it into HTML source and enter the page URL so path rules and internal links are judged correctly.
  3. Paste your robots.txt from https://your-site/robots.txt, and llms.txt if you have one.
  4. Read the score and the category breakdown, then work through the failed and warning items using the fix under each.
  5. Fix the page, paste the new source and check again.

Worked examples

The sample page

Input

Article with JSON-LD, one H1, an H2 to H4 jump, no og:image, robots.txt blocking GPTBot and PerplexityBot

Output

Warnings for heading order, Open Graph and robots.txt (PerplexityBot blocked); GPTBot noted as a training crawler that does not affect AI search

Blocking a training crawler is a choice; blocking a search crawler means that engine cannot cite you.

Client-rendered app

Input

<div id="root"></div> and a script tag

Output

Fail: almost no visible text, looks like a JavaScript app shell

Crawlers that do not run JavaScript see an empty page; server rendering or prerendering fixes it.

Background and insight

AI search features and assistants find pages through their own crawlers (OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and others) or through a traditional search index, and fetch pages live when a user asks. Many of these fetchers read the HTML the server sends and do not run JavaScript, so a single-page app that renders everything in the browser can look empty. The checks here focus on that raw HTML because it is the part you control and can verify.

Beyond access, clear structure helps any reader extract an answer: one H1, headings that follow the outline, a question as a heading with the answer in the first sentence under it, lists for steps and tables for comparisons, and schema.org JSON-LD that names the page type, author and dates. None of this guarantees a citation. AI products choose sources with their own ranking systems, which are not public, so this tool measures readability and access, not your odds of being quoted.

Common use cases

  • Launching a new page

Confirm the content, metadata and structured data are in the HTML before promoting it.

  • Single-page apps

Find out whether a React, Vue or Angular page is empty without JavaScript.

  • Robots.txt audits

Check that a blanket rule is not blocking AI search crawlers by accident.

  • Content structure reviews

Spot missing question headings, lists and author and date signals across key pages.

Tips and limitations

  • Paste the raw source, not the Elements panel from developer tools. The Elements panel shows the page after JavaScript ran.
  • A warning for training crawlers being blocked is information, not a problem: it does not affect AI search.
  • Visible text counts exclude scripts, styles and SVG, so navigation-heavy pages can still score low on content.
  • JSON-LD that fails to parse is ignored by search engines. Fix syntax errors before anything else.
  • Run the check on a template page and a content-heavy page; problems usually come from the template.
  • The score weights every check equally. Prioritise access (content in HTML, robots.txt, noindex) over polish.

Frequently asked questions

Can this tool guarantee that ChatGPT or Perplexity will cite my page?

No, and no tool can. It checks that crawlers can read and understand the page; which sources an AI product cites depends on its own ranking and the question asked.

Why do I have to paste the HTML instead of entering a URL?

Browsers block web pages from fetching other sites (CORS), and this tool runs entirely in your browser. Pasting the source also shows exactly what a crawler receives.

Do AI crawlers run JavaScript?

Many do not, or not reliably. If your content only appears after JavaScript runs, server-render or prerender it so it is in the initial HTML.

Does blocking GPTBot hurt my AI search visibility?

Not by itself. GPTBot is OpenAI's training crawler; ChatGPT search uses OAI-SearchBot. The checker reports training blocks separately from search blocks.

Is structured data needed for AI search?

It is not required, but schema.org JSON-LD states the page type, author and dates unambiguously, which helps search engines and other parsers.

What does nosnippet do to AI features?

Google says nosnippet and max-snippet limits also apply to its AI features, so a page that forbids snippets is less likely to be quoted there.

Is my pasted HTML uploaded?

No. Parsing and every check run in your browser with DOMParser; nothing is sent to a server.

Is there an in-depth guide to the AI Visibility Checker?

Yes. “How to Make Your Website Visible to AI Assistants and AI Search” covers the background, how it works, common pitfalls and worked examples. Read the full guide.
