Math Calculators with Steps
These calculators cover the arithmetic and algebra that turns up in homework, recipes, spreadsheets and pricing. They answer the question as you would phrase it, such as what percent one number is of another or what fraction a mixed number simplifies to, and they show the steps rather than only the result.

Which tool do I need?
Find the percent increase between two prices
Enter the old and new values to see the percent change, and switch to percent difference when neither value is the reference.
Add mixed numbers and simplify the answer
Type each fraction or mixed number and read the result as a simplified fraction, a mixed number and a decimal, with the steps.
Solve a quadratic equation for homework
Enter a, b and c to get both roots, the discriminant and the vertex, with every step of the formula shown.
Scale a recipe or a drawing by a ratio
Simplify the ratio, then solve for the missing value or scale every part by the same factor.
About Math Calculators
Use the Percentage Calculator for percent of, percent change and percent difference, and the Fraction and Ratio Calculators when quantities are written as parts. The GCF and LCM and Prime Factorization Calculators break whole numbers into factors, which is how fractions are simplified and common denominators found. The Quadratic Equation Solver handles any second-degree equation, including complex roots, and the Long Division Calculator lays out each subtraction the way it is taught in school. Scientific notation and Roman numerals round out the set.
Results use exact arithmetic where it matters: fractions stay as fractions, factorisation works on whole numbers up to large sizes and long division can continue into repeating decimals. When an answer is rounded, the tool says so and lets you choose the number of decimal places.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between percent change and percent difference?
Percent change compares a new value with an original one, so the direction matters. Percent difference compares two values with their average, so it is the same whichever comes first.
Do the math calculators round their answers?
Only when a decimal is unavoidable. Fractions, factors and remainders are exact, and decimal results let you choose how many places to show.
Can the quadratic solver give complex roots?
Yes. When the discriminant is negative it returns the two complex conjugate roots in a + bi form, along with the steps.
How large a number can the prime factorization calculator handle?
Whole numbers well into the trillions factor quickly in the browser. Very large numbers with two big prime factors take longer, which is the property encryption relies on.
