About Games

They split by the kind of attention they ask for. The reflex games are Tetris on the standard 10 by 20 well, speeding up every 10 lines; Snake, with an optional wall-wrapping mode; the Helicopter Game, one button and a cave that speeds up; and Bug on Wire, where you dodge birds across four wires. The logic games are 2048; Sudoku, where every puzzle is generated with exactly one solution at four difficulty levels; Minesweeper, with the three classic board sizes and a first click that is always safe; the Fifteen Puzzle, from 2 by 2 up to 12 by 12 with every shuffle solvable; and a Wordle-style game you can replay as often as you like.

Saves and scores stay in local storage on this device. 2048, Sudoku and Minesweeper resume where you left off, Snake, Helicopter and Bug on Wire keep a best score, and the word game keeps statistics; Tetris and the Fifteen Puzzle start fresh on reload. Several are keyboard-first: 2048 shows on-screen arrows on phones, and Minesweeper needs a right-click to flag. The word game is not the New York Times puzzle and uses its own list of about 500 common words.

Frequently asked questions

Which of these browser games save my progress?

2048, Sudoku and Minesweeper save the current game after each move, so a reload continues where you stopped. Snake, the Helicopter Game and Bug on Wire keep only a best score, the word game keeps statistics, and Tetris and the Fifteen Puzzle start over.

Which browser games here work on a phone or tablet?

2048 has on-screen arrow buttons, the Helicopter Game takes a finger on the screen, Sudoku has a number pad and the Fifteen Puzzle is tap-to-slide. Minesweeper can reveal squares by tap but cannot flag without a right-click. The rest play best with a keyboard.

Are the games free to play without signing up?

Yes. All nine are free, need no account and run in the browser. There is no high-score server, so scores and statistics stay on the device you played on and are lost if you clear site data.

Which game is best for a two-minute break?

Bug on Wire or the Helicopter Game, because a single round is short and needs no setup. Snake and Tetris have optional time limits if you want a fixed-length session. Sudoku and the larger Fifteen Puzzle boards take longer and are better saved for a real break.

Do the games send my scores to a leaderboard?

No. Nothing is uploaded and there is no shared leaderboard. Best scores and statistics live in local storage, so to compare with friends, share a screenshot.
