About this tool

What is AI Prompts for Insurance Agents?

Agents and brokers spend a large share of the day explaining things: what a policy actually covers, why the renewal premium went up, where a claim is, what a deductible means in practice. This kit has nine prompt templates for those conversations and the documents around them, from coverage explainers and renewal emails to needs-analysis questions and quote comparisons.

Every prompt tells the model to explain only what is in the policy wording or notes you paste, never to promise coverage, and to add the standard "the policy documents govern" line. A privacy check masks policy, claim and account numbers, names after titles, dates and contact details before you copy. The page assembles everything in your browser and sends nothing.

  • Nine templates for explainers, renewals, claims updates, needs analysis, objections, disclosures, quote comparisons, lapses and reviews
  • Prompts that tie every plain-language sentence to a quoted policy clause
  • Masking for policy, claim and account numbers, SSNs, names and contact details
  • Compliance-minded review list next to the prompt
  • Local favourites and a Markdown export for your agency's playbook

How to use AI Prompts for Insurance Agents

  1. Enter your line of business and setting, for example independent agency, personal auto and home, and pick the region.
  2. Choose a template: Coverage explainer, Renewal email, Claim status update, Needs analysis questions, Objection handling and others.
  3. Paste the relevant policy wording or your notes, with client names and numbers removed, or try the example.
  4. Mask anything flagged, copy the prompt and paste it into your agency's approved AI assistant.
  5. Check every statement about coverage against the policy and your compliance rules before sending.

Worked examples

Water damage explainer

Input

Homeowners policy clauses on sudden water discharge, seepage exclusion and the deductible

Output

Plain-language explanation with each sentence tied to a quoted clause and a separate exclusions list

The quoted clause next to each sentence is what lets you catch a paraphrase that sounds kinder than the wording.

Renewal with a price increase

Input

Old and new premium, reasons from the carrier notice, options to adjust deductible

Output

Renewal email that states the change, the stated reasons and the client's options

It uses only the carrier's stated reasons. A model asked to explain an increase without them will invent plausible ones.

Background and insight

Insurance language is precise for a reason, and a fluent paraphrase can change meaning. "Covered" in a summary may hide an exclusion, a sub-limit or a condition. The coverage explainer template asks the model to quote the clause next to each plain-language sentence and to list exclusions and conditions separately, so you can check the paraphrase against the wording before a client relies on it.

Regulators are paying attention to how insurers use AI. The NAIC adopted a Model Bulletin on the Use of Artificial Intelligence Systems by Insurers on 4 December 2023; it applies in states that have adopted it and asks insurers to maintain a written AI governance program. Agency and carrier policies on AI use vary, so check yours. Client information is also covered by privacy laws such as GLBA in the US and the GDPR in the UK and EU, and health details on life or health applications are especially sensitive.

Sales conversations carry suitability and disclosure duties that a model does not know for your licence and state. The disclosure checklist template drafts reminders from the requirements you paste rather than inventing rules, and objection-handling prompts are told to stay factual and avoid pressure tactics.

Common use cases

  • Explaining coverage

Turn dense policy wording into a client-friendly summary that still points to the clauses.

  • Renewal season

Draft renewal emails and annual review agendas that explain changes and options clearly.

  • Claims support

Send calm, accurate status updates that say what is known, what is pending and who acts next.

  • New business

Prepare needs-analysis questions and a side-by-side quote comparison table for a meeting.

Tips and limitations

  • Never let a summary say something is covered without the clause beside it. The policy documents govern.
  • Keep health details, SSNs and full policy numbers out of consumer AI tools; use your agency's approved system.
  • Objection replies should acknowledge the concern and give facts, not pressure. Check them against your state's conduct rules.
  • Quote comparisons from AI can misread limits and deductibles. Rebuild the table from the declarations pages yourself.
  • Keep a copy of what you sent, since client communications may form part of the file.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste a client's policy into ChatGPT to explain it?

Policy wording without personal details is usually fine to paste, but declarations pages carry names, addresses and policy numbers. Mask them first, and follow your agency's and carrier's rules on AI tools.

Can the AI tell a client whether a claim is covered?

No, and the prompts forbid it. Coverage decisions belong to the insurer under the policy. The templates explain wording and status, and add a line that the policy documents govern.

Are there rules on insurers using AI?

The NAIC adopted a Model Bulletin on the Use of AI Systems by Insurers in December 2023, which applies in states that adopt it. Privacy laws such as GLBA and GDPR also apply to client data. Ask your compliance team which tools are approved.

How do I handle the price objection without sounding pushy?

The objection template asks for an acknowledgement, the facts that matter to this client and an option such as a different deductible, with no pressure tactics. Edit it into your own voice.

Will the quote comparison be accurate?

Only as accurate as what you paste, and models can misread figures. Rebuild the final table from the quotes or declarations pages and check each limit and deductible.

Does this page keep client information?

No. Text you type stays in the page and is not sent anywhere. Starred templates are the only thing saved, in your browser.
