About File Converters

Every conversion runs in your browser, so contracts, payslips and private archives stay on your computer. That also sets the limits. A browser has no copy of Microsoft Word, so PDF to Word rebuilds paragraphs and headings from the text in the PDF rather than reproducing the page exactly, and Word to PDF lays the document out again from its structure. Each tool says what it keeps and what it drops before you download.

Pick the tool by what you need to do next. To edit a PDF, convert it to Word; if it is a scan with no selectable text, run it through Image to Text first. To share a document that must look the same everywhere, send a PDF. To load data into another program, a CSV is the safest choice, keeping in mind that formulas and formatting are lost.

Frequently asked questions

Are my documents uploaded when I convert them?

No. The files are read and converted inside the browser tab and the results are saved straight to your device. Nothing is stored on a server.

Why does a PDF converted to Word look different from the original?

A PDF records where each piece of text sits on the page, not which lines form a paragraph or a table. The converter rebuilds paragraphs, headings and lists from those positions, so text is editable but columns, text boxes and exact spacing are not reproduced.

Can these tools convert a scanned PDF?

Not directly, because a scan is a picture with no text in it. Run it through Image to Text, which uses OCR to read the words, then paste or convert the result.

Which old formats are not supported?

The binary Word .doc format, PowerPoint files, Kindle MOBI and AZW3 ebooks and DRM-protected EPUBs. Most have no reliable browser library, and DRM is designed to stop conversion.

What is lost when I save a spreadsheet as CSV?

Formulas become their calculated values, formatting, charts and comments disappear, and only one sheet is saved per file. Dates and numbers with leading zeros are worth checking after you reopen the file.
